Your essential guide to quartz crystal shapes

There are many reasons why clear quartz crystal is my favorite go-to crystal for healing. It has one of the highest vibrations of all crystals, and this vibration is regular and stable, due to its piezoelectric properties. (Also, the reason it’s used in so many of our modern-day technologies).

Clear quartz is the only truly programmable crystal. It allows you to store, focus and amplify, transmit and transform energy. It’s extremely versatile and the most important type of crystal to have in your kit.

Quartz crystals grow naturally into points, usually with six faces. They can be single-terminated, double-terminated, occur in clusters, or have beautiful inclusions inside them. These shapes and inclusions add an extra layer to the property of your quartz crystal, allowing you to use it for specific purposes.

How to use different quartz crystal shapes

Although you can program your clear quartz crystal for almost any healing purpose, it’s helpful to know how to take advantage of the different shapes and formations that occur. Here’s some of the most common formations and how to use them in your healing practice!

Single terminated quartz point

A single terminated point is a crystal with a point at one end. The other end is usually unfinished, showing where it’s been separated from a cluster. Points are very useful in healing as they allow energy to be directed. Depending on which way the point is facing, they can focus energy towards the body or draw it away.

Double terminated quartz point

A double-terminated quartz has points at both ends, allowing energy to be channeled in both directions at once. This shape is useful in grids and body layouts where quartz points can be used to form a pathway of energy from one crystal to another.

A longer quartz point (single or double-terminated) is often called a wand and is an excellent tool for crystal healers.

Quartz cluster

A cluster is a group of quartz points attached to a single base. They radiate energy outwards via all their points, making them useful for cleansing a room of negative energy. They can also be used to clean other crystals when programmed to do so.

Vogel wand

A Vogel wand is a double terminated point cut with precise measurements according to the laws of sacred geometry. It has a very specific vibration and is one of the most powerful shapes for crystal healing. Vogel wands have a male end which allows energy to be focussed towards a particular point, and a female end which amplifies and radiates energy. They can be used for chakra work and to heal the energy field.

Generator quartz

A generator crystal is usually large in size and has six equal sized faces that meet at the point. The centrally aligned point allows healing energy to be focussed through the tip, whilst the six faces radiate energy equally in all directions. Generator quartz is an excellent choice for a grid keystone.

Channeling quartz crystal

Channeler crystals have one, seven-sided face with a triangle opposite it. They allow you to channel energy and information from higher sources. Use a channeling quartz to aid with meditation and spiritual growth, or as a keystone in a crystal grid.

Transmitter quartz

Transmitter crystals have two, seven-sided faces with a triangle in between them. They send your intentions out to the Universe, so are excellent for manifesting work. Try using your transmitter quartz crystal in an abundance grid or for long-distance healing.

Trans-channeling quartz

A trans-channeler quartz (sometimes called a Dow crystal) combines the properties of a transmitter quartz and a channeler quartz.

It has three main seven-sided faces, each with a triangle face in between. It is another excellent choice for a gridding keystone as it allows you to both send and receive energy.

Clear quartz is, without doubt, the most useful and versatile crystal for your crystal healing kit. Do you need more quartz crystals in your life?
